He stated that a non-regular public bus with registration number 30-0040 Bueng Kan, carrying 49 officials from a study tour group from Phra Charoen Municipality, Bueng Kan Province (including the driver), had an accident where it skidded off the road and overturned on Highway 304 in Tambon Buphram, Nadi District, Prachin Buri Province, resulting in 18 deaths and 31 injuries on February 26.
The ministry has now called for discussions with the Department of Land Transport (DLT) and integrated work with relevant agencies, such as the Department of Highways (DOH), to analyze accidents and determine measures to jointly prevent accidents involving public transport vehicles. The meeting laid out guidelines and determined measures to prevent accidents involving non-scheduled public transport vehicles and considered risk points for accidents, as well as issued measures to prevent recurrence, divided into:
1. Vehicle dimension: Zoning of non-regular double-decker buses that run on risky routes and have data on frequent accidents, including studying the upgrade of GPS for use in two-way communication prevention, which can warn drivers in risky areas where accidents occur, creating Safety Ratings for public buses, and expediting plans/measures for public bus safety to ensure safety in all dimensions.
